HOLY ASSEMBLY

CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST

What We Believe - Affirmation of Faith

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN THE BIBLE

    • We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible written Word of God.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN GOD

    • We believe there is one God eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN THE BLESSED HOPE

    • We believe in the Blessed Hope, which is the rapture of the Church of God, which is in Christ at His return.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN REPENTANCE AND SALVATION

    • We believe that the only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance, and faith in the precious Blood of Jesus Christ. We believe that regeneration by the Holy Ghost is absolutely essential for personal salvation.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

    • We believe that the redemptive work of Christ on the Cross provides healing for the human body in answer to believing in prayer.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN THE HOLY GHOST

    • We believe that the baptism in the Holy Ghost, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for Him.

  • WE AFFIRM OUR FAITH IN SANCTIFICATION

    • We believe in the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a holy and separated life in this present world.

About
Holy Assembly

The Holy Assembly Church of God in Christ was founded by Elder James and Margaret Jackson in 1924.   It began in their home in Pasadena, CA as there were no other Churches of God in Christ in the city.  In 1928, the membership increased sufficiently such that they were able to move to a building on Lincoln Avenue and Westgate Street.  In 1937, the Lord led Elder Jackson to purchase a church at 1093 Fair Oaks Avenue, and God blessed their ministry there. Elder and Sister Jackson remained there until God called them home.

Elder Lawrence F. Catley was appointed pastor of Holy Assembly in June 1962. The church flourished and in 1966 the current building located at 55 E. Villa Street in Pasadena, CA was purchased. Under Elder Cately’s leadership, the congregation was able to pay off the mortgage in 1977. Elder Cately remained as Pastor until 1979 when the Lord called him home.

In June 1979, Superintendent F.J. Goodman was appointed pastor of Holy Assembly, along with his beautiful wife, First Lady Ella V. Goodman. Under His leadership, the church continued to prosper, grow, and underwent several improvements. During his appointment as Pastor he was promoted to Bishop and was also the Prelate of the Southern California Evangelistic Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction. Due to illness, Bishop Goodman stepped down from the office of Pastor and Prelate in 2006. Bishop Christopher E. Milton was then appointed Pastor. Bishop Goodman remained a vital part of the church until his heavenly ascension in 2010.
